Saturday, September 14th from 2 to 4 PM at the Mai Wah Museum Uptown
The Moon Festival, sometimes called the Mid-Autumn Festival, is second only to Chinese New Year when it comes to Chinese celebrations. The festival is a time for families to reunite for feasts, worship the moon, light paper lanterns, and eat moon cakes. It’s held when the moon is believed to be at its fullest and brightest. In Chinese culture, the full moon is a symbol of reunion, hence the gathering with family. The tradition stretches back 3,000 years.
The Mai Wah event will feature a small presentation about the Moon Festival, the reading of a couple traditional poems, and a chance to sample moon cakes and other treats. Additionally, the museum will be decorated with paper lanterns created by area children who can pick up kits at the Butte-Silver Bow Library (226 West Broadway Street).
During regular business hours, families can stop by and pick up a kit to take home and make a paper lantern. On the day of the Mai Wah’s Moon Festival, we ask that families bring their paper lanterns to the museum to be hung up and displayed during the festival.

w/ GARBARGE
& Almost Empathy
Duelist is a Western Black Metal band hailing from the rugged landscapes of (Butte) Montana. Their sound captures the ferocity of Black Metal, infused with the mournful twang of the Old West, creating a unique fusion that’s as raw and untamed as the land and history that inspires them. Duelist takes you on a journey through the windswept plains, rugged mountains, and ghost towns where the echoes of gunfights and Outlaws sing.
GARBARGE is a garage death metal band, "riffs from upper management" out of Bozeman, MT.
Almost Empathy is a 5 piece hardcore-punk band from Butte, Montana consisting of Miranda Fahnestock on vocals, Connor Whelan and Cody Peterson on guitars, Nick Bonney on Bass and Conor Powers on drums
If you're wondering why Butte Halloween, LLC hasn't been as active as in years past, the quick answer is that it blew apart in the apocalypse of 2020 and hasn't been reformed yet... but it will be! Plans are underway to form Butte Halloween, Inc. next fall in 2025. The reason is that, as some of you will know, the Offutt Family has long been at the heart of Butte Halloween's activities, with Gabriel Offutt having served as President of the LLC the entire time it was in operation. Now one of his sons is 18, and the other turns 18 in October of 2025, at which point the three of them will be enough to legally run Butte Halloween as an 501c3 Corporation.
This means we'll be able to get back to doing our more ambitious projects like The Butte Halloween Carnival and potentially a lot more fun things in the off season.
Stay tuned for more details!

Butte is passionate about Halloween and we want to create a space to share that passion with others. Our purpose is to provide a platform for Halloween enthusiasts to come together and celebrate spooky fun all year.
We value creativity, inclusivity, and fun. We believe that Halloween is for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. We also believe in emphasizing the more wholesome parts of our culture and providing alternatives to the more addictive or dangerous influences in town.
We are committed to tracking down, cataloging, and sharing everything spooky, silly, or fun in our area. We update whenever we learn something new, and there's always something happening, so check back often.
